About appraisal licensing in North Carolina
The North Carolina Appraisal Board is a standalone licensing board for appraisers (separate from the NC Real Estate Commission, which licenses agents). It issues four credential levels from Trainee to Certified General. The board's public search returns license type, status, expiration date, and whether the appraiser is enrolled on the federal ASC National Registry, which is required for appraisals in federally related transactions.

Consumer-direct single-family appraisals typically run about $300 to $600 in most North Carolina markets, with complex or mountain-county properties costing more. As a regulated benchmark, the VA fee schedule effective May 2026 sets single-family appraisal fees in North Carolina at $700 to $800 depending on county.
